Stockton Sports Commission Becomes Title Sponsor for Pacific Invitational

There’s a new player in the field for the Pacific Invitational Golf Tournament at Brookside Country Club, November 4-7.

The Stockton Sports Commission has come on board as title sponsor for the Nov. 4-7 event, joining presenting sponsor Ron Berberian, Bank of Agriculture & Commerce and Berberian European Motors. In fact, the Sports Commission will be the title sponsor for the next three years.

Fourteen teams will be participating in this second-year event, including UNC Charlotte, the No. 1-ranked team in the country, and this new partnership between the City of Stockton and the University of the Pacific is an ideal match.

“As we showcase our sports teams and Stockton, this tournament became a perfect event to help spread our message,” said Don Miller, director of the Stockton Sports Commission. “With 14 teams—including some the NCAA’s top college golfers—a lot of attention will be focused here. We’re committing our support for now and the future. It’s a great event and we are very excited about the opportunity to help an institution that has been a major part of Stockton’s sports history.”

The Stockton Sports Commission Pacific Invitational., presented by Ron Berberian, Bank of Agriculture & Commerce and Berberian European Motors was launched in 2006 with 12 teams and was won by perennial powerhouse Brigham Young University. The overall success of the event helped coach Brandon Goethals grow the event to include some of college golf’s big boys—Ohio State, (qualifier for 30 of the last 33 NCAA Tournaments), Oregon (coached by former PGA golfer Casey Martin), and of course BYU. Also included is Marquette, with junior Mike Van Sickle who shot a 60 last summer en route to the Pennsylvania Tri-State Championship.

“The support of the Sports Commission and Stockton takes us to a new level,” said Pacific golf coach Brandon Goethals. “Our dream has been to make this the best college golf tournament, and we look forward to putting on a first class event for the city and our participants.”

Admission is free for the 54-hole tournament which kicks off with a community-involved
