How’d this whole thing start?
BB - We just randomly got picked to be roommates our freshman year. It’s helped me out, Danny being from Stockton and on the course as well. We know each other’s games so well and we can look out for each other.
DG - Yeah, we just sat down and figured out what we needed to do to be a factor on this team. We woke up early every day over the summer and paid a personal trainer that got us in pretty damn good shape. We’d be on the golf course, put in work... play tournament. Plus Ben stayed here this summer. We lived in a garage.
A garage?
DG - Yeah, the back of my house.
Talk about your similarities.
DG - Well we both like doing the same thing. Yeah. We both like to have a good time. Yeah. But we know that you got to get the work done first. Yeah. We like to enjoy ourselves and love to relax.
The difference?
BB - I’m from SoCal.
DG - I’m Norcal. Ben’s more down to earth, not stressed out at all. I’m more responsible.
BB - Yeah, he is. I’m like the father. He makes his bed. He’s clean. He’s dirty. Yeah! I’m not as organized as he is and he’s definitely more of a people person.
What about on the golf course, talk about your games.
BB - Well, my ball striking has been one of the stronger part of my game, getting the ball of the tee and with my irons. But my putting and touch around the green is definitely something that I need to improve on.
DG - That’s funny cause we have the exact opposite games. I rely totally on my short game and putting. I could shank it around the course and still shoot 72. But when my ball striking’s on I will play well.
Why Pacific?
BB - It was the best opportunity for me to succeed with golf. The coaches are passionate and determined to win. The program is very focused on one goal. Getting better and winning.
Ever wish you were right handed?
DG - Nope. Not for a second.
You know, cause it’s gotta be hard...
DG - Nope.
So what are you each known for?
DG - What, you mean like nicknames? I’m D. Garc. With a C. Not Gark.
BB - Yeah, just call me Benny.
Kinda leaning towards how other people know you two...
DG - Oh, well probably that I’m pretty respectful, quiet... and that I’m a leader. Adults like me.
Yeah, you’ve got them fooled huh?
BB - (laughs) I’d say people know me for being involved in the community and being a leader, just very involved, someone that works hard...
Wait a second!! If we took a random survey of Pacific students they’d say you were respectful?
DG - Yeah bro! He’s an eagle scout.
BB - Of course they would... Maybe they’d say that’s the guy that’s really white...
Round out the dream foursome for me. You two... and any two other people for a round of golf. Who are they?
DG - I’d have to play with Elizabeth Hurley! (laughs) I’d say probably Dane Cook, someone funny... and Fred Couples. Ooh, that’s a good one. I’ll say Tiger Woods.
Any golf superstitions?
DG - Yeah, I always have to have my clothes ironed. I can’t wear wrinkly stuff on the golf course. I think the better I look the better I play.
How bout you?
BB - Oh yeah...I don’t care. I’ll wear whatever. Anything goes I guess...
